Maddox Is FenwayNation's 'Under Radar' Award Winner
The Editors of FenwayNation have named Red Sox relief pitcher Austin Maddox as their 2017 'Under The Radar' Award recipient—for under-recognized contributions to the team. The 26-year old right-hander was stellar when utilized out of the Red Sox bullpen—posting a 0.52 ERA over 17.1 innings of work. Maddox walked just two batters and struck out 14 in the 13 games he worked in. The 6'2", 220-pounder delivered a WHIP of 0.87 and held opposing batters to a .200 average. His strikeout-to-walk ratio (7.00) was third best on the 2017 team—trailing only Craig Kimbrel (9.00) and Chris Sale (7.16). Previous award winners in this category were: Heath Hembree (2016) ; Tommy Layne (2015) ; Alex Wilson (2014) ; Daniel Nava (2013).
