Red Sox Fall Short Again, Face Apocalyptic Collapse
Those ghosts of 2011 are hovering back around Yawkey Way. The difference is that in 2017, even the worst fate still ends up with a playoff berth. However, the 3-2 Friday night loss sets up a nightmare scenario where Boston might have to go to The Concrete Bunker On 161st Street for a one-game showdown to decide the winner of the AL East on Monday. Then, if they lose that, a Tuesday one-game elimination Wild Card game at Fenway against the Twinkies. Bottom line: Wednesday morning they're playing golf. What could prevent all this is one win in the last two games or one Yankee loss. Last night, The Carmine Hose battled back from another 3-0 deficit—but fell one run short, despite multiple opportunities to take the lead. Doug Fister pitched just well enough to lose and Dustin Pedroia and Rafael Devers got the Boston RBIs. But, it just wasn't enough on this 1-4 "homestand". (Getty Images)
