Who Knew ChiSox Nicky Delmonico Was A Red Sox Fan?
According to David Laurila of FanGraphs.com, White Sox OF Nicky Delmonico grew up a Red Sox fan. So, when he clubbed his first MLB HR last Thursday at Fenway Park, it was pretty much a dream come true. The 25-year-old hit it into the RF bleachers in the same park he worshipped as a youngster. Said Delmonico, "As a little kid, I cheered for the Red Sox. My first time here was to watch the Yankees and Red Sox. It was a long time ago—Mike Mussina was pitching against Tim Wakefield. Jeter was at short. Nomar was at short. My second time here—I think it was 2003— was Red Sox-White Sox. That was the last time I was here before last night." The third time into the Fens was certainly a charm—resulting in a 395-foot dinger. As he aptly summed it all up, "It felt like I hit the ball, and I was at home before I knew it." Indeed.
