He was rumored to be a target of the Red Sox, but
it's the Cleveland Indians who have landed Jay Bruce—perhaps the most consequential acquisition of the year. For one thing,
The Evil Ones didn't get him. For another, the Indians are still probably not
as solid a contender for the AL pennant as they were last year—even with the addition of Bruce. That said, this is a good move for
Tito's Tribe. With injuries to
Lonnie Chisenhall and
Michael Brantley, Cleveland needed another big offensive bat to protect the likes of
Edwin Encarnacion,
Francisco Lindor and
Carlos Santana. Now they have him.
