If
'Teddy Ballgame' had lived, he'd be celebrating his 99th birthday today. Next year's
centennial of his birth, of course, will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the last
pre-2004 Red Sox World Series Championship in 1918. It's hard to
fully do justice to the majesty of
Ted Williams in a simple blog post. War hero (two times over). Last man to hit over .400. As a Red Sox rookie in 1939, he hit .327 with 31 HRs and 145 RBIs. And it was all
uphill from there. Five-hundred and twenty-one HRs later, he was enshrined in the
MLB Hall Of Fame—and was,
unquestionably,
The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived. Happy birthday, Ted!
