Jay Groome |
Don't look now, but there may
finally be a legitimate pitching prospect in the Red Sox organization—and his name is
Jay Groome. He's currently the #1 Sox prospect (#48 in MLB)—now that previous #1
Rafael Devers is with the big club. While just 18-years-old,
Groome is showing remarkable poise—particularly in his last two starts for Single A Greenville. Over that span, he has yet to give up a run—most recently delivering five scoreless innings, while giving up just three hits. The lefty struck out six and induced five ground-ball outs against Kannapolis. Boston's 2016 first-round pick struggled early at the higher level of A ball—but he is now starting to match his numbers from an earlier stint at lower A Lowell (1.64 ERA). Keep an eye on this kid.
