The Red Sox had a golden opportunity to enter the All-Star Break with serious separation between them,
The Evil Ones and the Rays. Instead, after dropping three of four to Tampa (including
yesterday's abysmal 5-3 loss), they sit just 3.5 games up on both of their division rivals. After trailing Sunday's game 2-1 in the seventh,
Dustin Pedroia launched a two-run, opposite-field HR to take a 3-2 lead. Pedey was pumped as he circled the bases—apparently, the bullpen was
not.
Matt Barnes immediately gave back the lead in the bottom of the seventh and
Joe Kelly gave up two more runs in the eighth to seal the defeat. Also wasted were: a
Mookie Betts HR to lead off the game, and another solid pitching performance from
David Price (six innings, two earned runs).
