Veteran
Boston Globe sports reporter
Dan Shaughnessy published
new details of a charter flight encounter between David Price and NESN's Dennis Eckersley. After Eck made an
allegedly negative comment about an
Eduardo Rodriguez rehab start (actually, he simply said,
"Yuck"), Price said this to the
Hall of Fame closer as he moved up the aisle on the Red Sox charter flight,
"Here he is -- the greatest pitcher who ever lived! This game is easy for him!" As Eckersley attempted a reply, Price stated,
"Get the [expletive] out of here!". Then, according to Shaughnessy, many of the players applauded Price's comments. This is a highly disturbing event and raises two concerns: 1.) the destructive petulance of Price and 2.) the seeming 'jock-club' mentality of many Red Sox players. Eckersley is a color commentator. He has a job to do. There's no "safe space" for multi-million dollar athletes to avoid criticism. Grow up and play.
