The
former top Red Sox pitching prospect—
Anderson Espinoza—
will undergo Tommy John surgery next week. The 19-year old phenom was traded to the Padres last year for
Drew Pomeranz. The deal was almost negated because
Pomeranz was deemed "damaged goods". Ironically, it's Espinoza who now needs surgery—which will likely sideline him until the start of the 2019 season. The one positive for him is that he will be just 21 years old when he is fully rehabbed. Way back when,
at age 17, Espinoza was clocked with a 100-MPH fastball and was a rising star in the Sox organization before the trade.
