On this date in 1946, Red Sox legend
Ted Williams (AKA:
The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived) clouted the longest home run
ever inside Fenway Park. The spheroid traveled an astounding 502 feet—landing in bleacher section 42, row 37, seat 21. And, according to a modern analysis by
HitTrackerOnline.com, the
unimpeded distance (if it hadn't hit the straw hat of the guy in
The Red Seat)
would have been 530 feet—when accounting for exit velocity (119.4 MPH), trajectory (30.3 degrees) and weather (76 degrees, 12 MPH wind). Astounding!
