If
Drew Pomeranz pitches like he did tonight, the Red Sox will be a very successful team. The lefty hurled 6.2 innings—giving up just one earned run (a solo HR) on only four hits. With the game tied at 1-1 in the eighth,
Mookie Betts clouted a first pitch home run to make it
2-1—the eventual final score. The bullpen took over from there—with
Joe Kelly,
Matt Barnes and
Craig Kimbrel (save #19) closing it out.
Dustin Pedroia contributed two hits in the win, and
Mitch Moreland drove in the other run in the contest. The win pulled Boston to within 1.5 games of
The Evil Ones—who were still playing at the Oakland Mausoleum.
