John Farrell weighed in on
two issues regarding his lineup and made very clear what his preferences are. First, he
shot down any idea that
Mookie Betts would play second base during the DL absence of
Dustin Pedroia. While Betts came up as a second baseman (and a good one), he is now firmly ensconced as a premier right-fielder. Second, Farrell committed to the full-time role of left-fielder
Andrew Benintendi, saying that the rookie is
not a platoon player. An occasional substitution of
Chris Young in left—when specific match-ups indicate it—is
not a suggestion that Benintendi is a part-time player.
