There's been a lot of discussion about available third-base alternatives for your
2017 Carmine Hose.
Todd Frazier and
Mike Moustakas have been the primary players mentioned, but
now the St. Louis Cardinals have created
another option.
The Redbirds today DFA'd veteran infielder Jhonny Peralta. He will certainly clear waivers (given his bloated salary and poor performance), so he'll soon be available to sign with any club. Peralta is having a miserable, injury-plagued season—hitting just .204 for the Cards in 21 games. Since St. Louis will have to eat the final half-year of his four-year, $53 million contract, it
might be a safe risk for
Dave Dombrowski.
