Even in the era of "fake news" and "alternative facts", we were a little taken aback by a
Washington Post headline
suggesting that Andrew Benintendi be crowned as "Lil' Papi". Granted, the 22-year-old LF is probably the best player on this team—leading
The Carmine Hose in HRs (5), RBIs (22), slugging (.500), total bases (64) and hits (42). Thrust into the clean-up spot (formerly occupied by
Big Papi), he has flourished. The kid doesn't seem to be intimidated by
any challenge. But,
"Lil' Papi"? He's played in exactly 66 MLB games so far. Let's give him a little breathing room before we anoint him with Ortiz-like nicknames. Come on,
Post, this is not
Woodward and Bernstein-worthy!
