Completely separate from Tuesday's incident involving Orioles CF
Adam Jones, the Red Sox on Wednesday
banned a fan from Fenway Park for life for making a racially-charged comment to another fan.
Calvin Hennick, a Boston resident in attendance at the game, stated that a neighboring fan used a "variant of the N-word" when referring to the national anthem singer. Fenway Park security was called in and the fan was ejected and then permanently banned from the park. Red Sox President
Sam Kennedy said the following to reporters,
"I'm here to send a message, loud and clear, that the behavior, the language, the treatment of others that you've heard about and read about is not acceptable. We have to recognize that this exists in our culture. It's not indicative of Boston. It's a handful of ignorant and intolerant people." The Red Sox —for some unknown reason—have refused to name the banned fan. Local investigative reporter
Michele McPhee reported that the fan in question is
from the North Shore area of Boston and admitted to Boston Police that he made the comment.
