Suffering a four-game sweep at the hands of a pathetic team like the Oakland A's might have been too humiliating to take. Thankfully, the Red Sox mustered a full team effort to
smite the Awful Athletics, 12-3 on Sunday. The win puts Boston barely over the .500 mark on the year (22-21), and makes the 6-hour flight east a little more tolerable.
Eduardo Rodriguez was terrific
again—going eight solid innings and giving up three earned runs. E-Rod struck out eight and walked just one Oaklander.
Mitch Moreland homered in his third straight game—hopefully entering one of his power streaks as the team heads home to play his old Texas teammates. And,
Mookie Betts whizzed around the basepaths to improbably score two runs he had no business scoring—
and made two sparkling defensive plays in right field.
Hanley Ramirez also had a good day—going 3 for 4 and knocking in two runs. All in all, a solid effort all around. Finally.
