Sandy 'Babe' Leon is doing it again. Today, the Red Sox catcher broke an 8th-inning tie with a two-run single to put Boston in position for
a thrilling 7-5 win. Boston came back four times from deficits, finally breaking through for good in a the four-run eighth.
Rick Porcello was not in possession of his best stuff, but persevered—keeping his team in the game. Missing
Jackie Bradley, Jr. and
Hanley Ramirez, the Red Sox offense still got key contributions from
Mitch Moreland,
Andrew Benintendi and
Marco Hernandez. It's only Week One, but you get the sense that this was an important win—given all the circumstances (illnesses and injuries) facing the team.
