Drew Pomeranz was the last guy most fans thought would turn in a stellar outing in his first start of 2017. Injuries, injections, stem cells, disabled list—all seemed to spell disaster. And yet, the lefty went six plus solid innings, yielding just one earned run and striking out six in Boston's
8-1 win over the Orioles.
Dustin Pedroia had four RBIs in the contest—which was a tight one-run affair until the seventh inning.
Christian Vazquez—who has yet to be retired in 2017—had four more hits to keep his average at 1.000.
Matt Barnes—the newly designated eighth-inning guy—delivered near flawless relief. In addition to Vazquez and Pedroia, multiple hits were turned in by
Mookie Betts,
Andrew Benintendi (3-5), and
Chris Young. All in all, a really good night and a really good win.
