On a frigid night at Fenway Park,
Chris Sale and
Jameson Taillon engaged in a tight pitchers' duel and—thanks also to solid bullpen help—neither team tallied through 11 plus innings. Then, with one out in the bottom of the 12th,
Sandy 'Babe' Leon—re-living his early season exploits from 2016—crushed a three-run HR over the Green Monster
to seal a 3-0 walk-off win for
The Carmine Hose. The game was marked by good defensive plays, bad base-running and excellent pitching throughout. Sale went seven full innings, yielding no runs on just three hits—striking out seven in a no-decision. In addition to Leon's three-hit night (he's hitting .625),
Jackie Bradley, Jr. had two hits—and a critical stolen base in the final frame. This was a good gut-check win in lousy weather. Nice.
