Carson Smith's Elbow 'Talked Back To Him' Post-Bullpen
Stop us if you've heard this before: a Red Sox pitcher is recovering from injury more slowly than originally thought. This time, reliever Carson Smith has had another apparent setback in his recuperation from Tommy John surgery. See if you can figure out this inscrutable quote from manager John Farrell: "He’s been on the mound a couple of times. He was aggressive in his first bullpen and I think the elbow kind of talked back to him a little bit with some stiffness but he’s making progress through it...working through the return, the throwing progression." Hmm. We're not medical experts like the crack Red Sox rehab team—but this doesn't sound too good. The original estimate of Smith's return (June) may be pushed back after this depressing news.
