It appears the Red Sox may have dodged another starting pitcher injury bullet as
x-rays on Rick Porcello's thumb came back negative. The 2016 Cy Young winner was nailed on the thumb by a shot off the bat of former Red Sox OF
Yoenis Cespedes. Said manager
John Farrell about Porcello's thumb,
"He’s a little swollen. He’s not going to play catch today but X-rays were negative...It’s likely though that he’ll throw in an intrasquad game back here on Monday with Steven Wright starting against Toronto up in Dunedin."
