One guy we did
not expect to see on the Red Sox radar this Spring is 32-year old
Allen Craig. However, so far in Grapefruit League play, Craig is hitting .294 with a 1.043 OPS (seventh-best among "regulars"). He's got two doubles and five RBIs in 17 at-bats so far. Manager
John Farrell sees more "hard contact" in Craig's swing—the kind of ability that made him one of the most productive hitters in the National League. So, what do the Red Sox do with this guy? They owe him a whopping $11 million this year—but can opt out of his contract in 2018 for a $1 million buyout. So, who's going to take that kind of albatross? Maybe Boston can get a decent prospect from someone by agreeing to eat a big chunk of Craig's salary. At least he's
viable again.
