The Aptly-Named 'Abad' |
How would like to be Fernando Abad's arbitration lawyer? Talk about court-appointed counsel! The Red Sox are headed to an arbitration hearing for the first time since 2002—and, frankly, Abad is an odd one to go to the wall with. Abad was abysmal in 2016—going 0-2 with a 6.89 ERA in 18 appearances with the Red Sox. But he is a lefty—and that can get you a long way in major league baseball. Amazingly, this will be the first arbitration case of the year in all of baseball. Equally amazingly, Abad's representatives want him to get a raise from $1.3 million to $2.7 million. And don't forget, we gave up a very talented pitcher in Pat Light to get this guy. A decision is expected today. We say: bid low, sell low.
