The Red Sox and
Drew Pomeranz avoided arbitration by agreeing on
a one-year, $4.45 million contract. Pomeranz recently underwent a stem cell injection process in his injured elbow—which will hopefully allow him to pitch the full year in the Boston rotation. After being acquired by the Red Sox in the middle of last season, the lefty was a disappointing 3-5 with a 4.59 earned run average over thirteen starts. With the lingering injury doubts surrounding fellow lefty
Eduardo Rodriguez, Pomeranz has an excellent chance—if healthy himself—to move into the number four slot in the rotation.
