The Great Sherm Feller |
For those of us who went to Fenway before there was a 'Wally' or seats on 'The Wall', the booming God-like voice that addressed us from above was the legendary
Sherm Feller. His deep, resonant tones were unmistakeably authoritative. When Sherm spoke, you
listened. When he greeted us with,
"Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to Fenway Park" it made you feel good as a little kid—really part of the scene. Sherm passed away 23 years ago today—and would have turned 99 in July. As
Gary Titus (the stalwart proprietor of a Feller Facebook tribute group) says,
"Wouldn't it be great if he finally gets inducted into The Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame on his 100th Birthday next year?" It would be great,
indeed. You can join in the effort to get Sherm into that hall by visiting Gary's group
