Before the Red Sox traded for reliever
Tyler Thornburg,
they "re-upped" manager John Farrell through the 2018 season. Said Farrell,
"I'm thrilled that it's been exercised, obviously. I love the city, the organization and the players that we have. This is an exciting young team with that young core group of players that we talk about. And it's developing year over year and will continue to expand." Farrell's four years in the job so far have yielded a World Series Championship (2013),
two AL East division titles (2013, 2016) and
two last place finishes (2014, 2015).
