FenwayNation was thrilled to be present last night at the
2nd Annual Globie Awards—presented by the Sports Department of
The Boston Globe. This year, we were also honored to be part of the
nomination process, and were eagerly looking forward to the results. Not surprisingly, retiring
David Ortiz was the big winner—even giving the crowd a reprise (of sorts) of his famous post-Marathon speech. Ortiz took the following awards home: Boston Pride, Athlete of the Year, Red Sox MVP, Best Moment (500th HR), and Best Athlete Endorsement (JetBlue).
Tom Brady won for Most Stylish and Patriots MVP. Other winners were Olympic marathoner
Abbey D’Agostino (Good Sport), Northeastern University hockey star
Kendall Coyne (Best Female Athlete),
Isaiah Thomas (Celtics MVP) and
Patrice Bergeron (Bruins MVP). The event itself was a star-studded gala—from the Red Carpet entrances to the Oscar-like presentations. It was a confirmation of what
Big Papi said in his acceptance speech,
"This is the best ******* sports city." Indeed. Congratulations to the
Boston Globe Sports Department on a night that even surpassed the inaugural event from 2015!
