Four runs should be enough for an 'ace'. On Thursday night, it clearly was not enough for
Rick Porcello in Boston's
5-4 ALDS Game One loss. Three Indians hit solo HRs off Porcello in the third inning (
on just nine pitches)—which effectively sealed Boston's fate. The purported 'ace' ended up going just 4.1 innings and giving up all five runs. Little things hurt as well, like
Andrew Benintendi not recognizing a tag play that ended up resulting in the winning run. Now, Boston has to win three out of the next four games to keep its title hopes alive—at least one of those three wins at
The Mistake By The Lake. That's how big losing home field advantage was. The Red Sox hit three HRs of their own—solo shots by
Benintendi,
Sandy Leon and
Brock Holt. But with
Xander Bogaerts,
Jackie Bradley, Jr. and
Mookie Betts going a combined 0-11, there just wasn't enough firepower in the lineup. The two teams match-up again today at 4PM.
