UPDATE: Tito's Response
It may be grasping at straws, but the Red Sox needed to come up with some explanation for Rick Porcello's awful performance in Game One of the ALDS. While the team has not explicitly charged the Indians with stealing pitch signs, they did alter their sign scheme partway through the loss. Said pitching coach Carl Willis: "His signs are unique to begin with, so we talked about mixing it up. Just looking for any advantage we can get or to give them something more to think about, if you will." When specifically asked about sign-stealing, Willis answered cryptically, "Yeah, you never know." Of course, the more likely scenario is that Porcello simply stunk last night. But, in this day and age, conspiracy theories are all the rage.
