Castillo (L); Craig (R) |
The Red Sox 40-man roster is complete and
two very pricey names are not on it:
Rusney Castillo and
Allen Craig. As
MassLive.com's Christopher Smith points out, that amounts to $23.270 million in (essentially) dead 2016 salary. That would buy a
lot of soccer balls for
John Henry's foreign plaything (Liverpool F.C.). As
John Lackey thrives for the Cubbies (9-7, 3.36 ERA), the two guys he was traded to the Cardinals for (Craig and
Joe Kelly) have not really contributed much to the 2016 season. Getting back to the roster, Craig (who is now 32 years old) hit
under The Mendoza Line for the year at AAA (.189). And, while Castillo had a strong second-half, he still finished at only .263 with two HRs. Unless further injuries hit
The Carmine Hose, neither one of these guys will see any potential post-season action.
