Not a bad way to start a 9-game road trip! The Red Sox continued their 2016 dominance of the Oakland A's with a
run-scoring orgy to the tune of 16-2.
Travis Shaw—just told he will be effectively benched with the arrival of
Yoan Moncada—went 3-6 with 5 RBIs.
Bench this. David Ortiz was 2-2 with 3 RBIs,
Hanley Ramirez was 2-4 with 3 RBIs—and
Sandy 'Babe' Leon and
Xander Bogaerts each had 2 RBIs. You get the picture. After being deadlocked 2-2 early, Boston opened the floodgates for a combined 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
David Price was the beneficiary of all this offensive largesse—gaining his 14th win of the year with seven solid innings. His ERA is now down to 3.92. The win moved Boston to within one game of the AL East lead.
