The very fact that this game was a blowout of the Orioles was more than enough. But the cherry on top was that it included the following fact:
David Ortiz has tied
Mickey Mantle on the all-time home run list (both now have 536). Let that one roll around in your head for a few minutes—it's pretty amazing. Back to the game—the Red Sox scored five times in the first inning off old buddy
Wade Miley in
an eventual 12-2 laugher. Pretty much the entire 617 Area Code was in on this one—but the offense was
paced by Ortiz (2-3, HR, RBI),
Chris Young (4-4, HR, RBI) and
Hanley Ramirez (2-3, HR, 3 RBIs). Of course, there was
Xander Bogaerts (2-5, RBI) and
Sandy Leon (2-3, 2 RBIs). Oh, and that
Dustin Pedroia fella (2-4) and, yeah,
Mookie Betts (1-5, 2 RBIs). Like we said: Area Code. Did we mention that
David Price, in fact, came up
huge—going eight
brilliant innings and giving up just two hits (both solo HRs)? The lefty struck out nine and walked
none for his 16th victory of the year. This was a total team effort and kept Boston two games up on Toronto, three up on Baltimore and five up on
The Evil Ones.
