'538' Profiles Red Sox As Top American League Team
The FiveThirtyEight website (noted for sometimes accurate political and sports predictions) has tabbed your 2016 Carmine Hose as the top team in the American League. The website ranks Boston (with a 1558 rating) just behind the Chicago Cubs (1580) and just ahead of the Nationals (1544). 'Tito's Tribe' ranks fourth as the next best AL team after Boston—coming in with a rating of 1542. The site projects a final win total of 91 for the Red Sox—which is exactly where they would end up if they maintained their current winning percentage. The Red Sox are given a 90% chance of making the post-season 'tournament'—and a 14% chance of winning the World Series. Only the Cubbies have a higher chance of a victory in The Fall Classic (20%). All pretty good news—except 538's chief honcho, Nate Silver, thought Donald Trump had no chance at the Republican nomination.
