To make room for the additions of
Fernando Abad and
Andrew Benintendi, the Red Sox had to make two roster moves. Both
Michael Martinez and
Tommy Layne were designated for assignment to accommodate the new players. Yesterday,
Joe Kelly was optioned to AAA Pawtucket to make room for the return of closer
Craig Kimbrel.
