Rick Porcello became the first 18-game winner in the major leagues last night,
helping the Red Sox beat the Rays, 9-4. The Sox ace threw seven solid innings, giving up three earned runs. The righty struck out seven and walked none. The Boston offense was paced by four players who knocked in two runs apiece:
Mookie Betts (HR #30),
Brock Holt,
Chris Young and
Sandy 'Babe' Leon. Lost in the shuffle was an amazing, swirling defensive play by SS
Xander Bogaerts. The win allowed
The Carmine Hose to stay two games back of the Jays—who beat the fading Orioles.
