The Tigers gave
David Ortiz a cheesy framed picture—the kind you might get on sale for $99.00 from
Twins Souvenirs across from Fenway—as a "going-away" gift. Big Papi then 're-paid' them for their kindness with a 2-run, game-winning HR in
Boston's eventual 3-2 win in
The Motor City. After two rain-delays, the much-maligned bullpen had to pull out the win—rescuing 'The Departed'
Drew Pomeranz—who had to leave after the second delay.
Heath Hembree,
Brad Ziegler,
Matt Barnes and
Craig Kimbrel combined for four shutout innings—yielding a total of just two hits. Boston remained one-half game behind the Blue Jays for first place in the AL East—and are one shy of the 70-win threshold.
