Boy, these billionaires sure are clannish!
Frank McCourt—the guy who should have been selected Red Sox owner back in 2002—now seems to be following in the footsteps of the guy that did win the bidding, John Henry. McCourt, who bought the Los Angeles Dodgers after swinging and missing on his hometown Red Sox, is buying a foreign soccer team—just like
Johnny Boy. The only difference is that McCourt is buying a franchise in the
French league,
Club Olympique de Marseille. McCourt—if he had purchased the Red Sox—would likely have built a state-of-the-art
new Fenway Park on land he owned in the Seaport District. Think of it—comfortable seats, cupholders, no obstructions, tons of parking and a view of Boston Harbor from the stands. Gee, what a bummer that would have been, huh?
