Along with trading for the starter they needed in
Drew Pomeranz, the Red Sox also locked up their top draft pick yesterday—
signing 17-year old Jason Groome to a $3.65 million bonus deal. After much back and forth over the last couple of weeks, it came down to the team "sweetening" their offer from the allocated funding for the #12 overall spot. Any "make-up" concerns about Groome seem to have been fully vetted by the Red Sox. The kid can bring a 97-MPH fastball, an "Uncle Charlie" curve and a change-up. Again, for this highly-touted (and rated #1 by many) talent is a huge win for Boston.
