David Price showed up—better late than never. The guy the Red Sox are spending $30 million a year on pitched a gem today—going eight dominating innings, giving up no runs and striking out ten in
a 4-0 shutout win. The lefty gave up just four hits and walked only one batter on 113 pitches. Price went to 9-6 on the year and lowered his ERA to a somewhat respectable 4.34. On the offensive side,
David Ortiz clouted his 22nd HR of his final year (525th of his career) to put Boston up 3-0 early.
Big Papi finishes the first half hitting .332 with a .426 OBP and a slugging percentage of .682. Oh, and
Mookie Betts went 3-4 and finishes up the first half batting .304. So, the Red Sox finish the first half 11 games over .500.
