David Price was brought here to be the stopper—the guy that stops losing streaks. Unfortunately, yesterday he was the 'reverse' stopper—ending a six-game
winning streak. And, while
the 3-1 loss may seem like it was a good effort, Price struck out only one batter in 5 2/3 innings (after two straight 10 strikeout games). And, he gave up a whopping 11 hits to produce the three earned runs. While he seemed to unravel after an extremely late time-out call by the home plate umpire, there's no real excuse for not being dominant in a game like this. The "offense" (3 total hits) was keyed by
Dustin Pedroia's solo HR. Boston missed an opportunity to move within one game of Baltimore and sits just a game ahead of the third-place Blue Jays.
