Lucchino: No One Untouchable In Sox Trade Discussions
You gotta think that current Sox honcho Dave Dombrowski is a little miffed at former Sox honcho Larry Lucchino for spouting off in the media about Boston's trade decisions. Lucchino told WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Morning Show today that nobody in the Red Sox organization is untouchable. Specifically, he said the following, "Dave Dombrowski has taken the position that no one is untouchable, that it's just a matter of people for whom it would be very unlikely that a trade would be had, but no one is untouchable." Now, maybe this is just a planned, deliberate 'trial balloon' to gauge the blowback from media and fans. You know, Larry "taking one for the team" and insulating Dombrowski from direct criticism. Maybe. But it also could be 'Larry being Larry'—reaching out from his Providence-based exile to be relevant again. Who knows? What we do know is that—if this really is the strategy—we should be very worried that Double D may trade away a bright future for short-term gain. Clearly, we need two starters to contend—but hopefully not at the expense of Yoan Moncada, Andrew Benintendi or Anderson Espoinoza. Let's hope not.
