Hello, July! The weather is warm here in Boston, the humidity is low and the balls are flying out of Fenway Park. Today,
The Carmine Hose batted out 21 hits—
thirteen of them extra-base hits—in
a 12-5 rout of the team with the best AL record. All of this, after the Rangers put up four quick runs on
Rick Porcello in the top of the first inning. Boston countered with one in the bottom of the inning—then surged ahead to stay with four more in the third. Porcello, meanwhile, battened down the hatches and went six innings without giving up any more runs. As a result, he got his 10th win of the year. Boston had multiple-hit games from
seven of their nine hitters—with
Sandy 'Babe' Leon going 4-5 and now hitting .500 on the year.
Dustin Pedroia,
Xander Bogaerts and
Travis Shaw each pounded out three hits. The Red Sox clouted four HRs—from Pedroia, Shaw,
Mookie Betts (#18) and
Brock Holt. This was an impressive comeback win and augers well for the balance of this critical home-stand.
