There's been a fair amount of speculation about the Red Sox showing interest in Milwaukee catcher
Jonathan Lucroy—despite the more obvious needs in the rotation, bullpen and bench. Having said that, the 30-year-old Lucroy is having
another stellar season at the plate (.302, 10 HRs, 38 RBIs)—while providing semi-elite defensive work (38% caught stealing vs. 31% NL-wide). Of course, acquiring Lucroy would necessitate some serious roster moves—with tough decisions about
Christian Vazquez,
Blake Swihart,
Sandy "Babe" Leon and
Andover High School's
Ryan Hanigan. Clearly, one of this quartet would have to go back to
The Brew Crew (most likely Vazquez or Swihart), but that still means somebody
else has to go somewhere. Lucroy is a quality player, with his career achievements being overshadowed by just
being in Milwaukee. For his 7-year career, he's hit .284 with 76 HRs and 375 RBIs. Stay tuned!
