There's a lot of excitement surrounding the picks made by the Red Sox
this year in the
MLB Draft. But, of course, it's unlikely to match the ridiculously successful 2011 draft that the team pulled off five years ago. Here are some of the players signed in the first nine rounds of that draft: ROUND ONE:
Matt Barnes (#19),
Blake Swihart (#26). SANDWICH ROUND:
Henry Owens (#36),
Jackie Bradley, Jr. (#40). FOURTH ROUND:
Noe Ramirez (#142). FIFTH ROUND:
Mookie Betts (#172). NINTH ROUND:
Travis Shaw (#292). Barnes, Swihart, Owens and Bradley were all compensation picks for the loss of either
Victor Martinez or
Adrian Beltre. If this year's haul is even
half as good as 2011, it will be a
huge success.
