Forget whatever we said before,
this was the worst loss of the 2016 season. Last night,
Steven Wright delivered a complete game—giving up no earned runs (the lone Chicago run scored on a passed ball by
Christian Vazquez, who later tied the game with an RBI). The offense—so unstoppable earlier in the year—was nowhere to be found. In the bottom of the ninth, Boston could not push across a run (and give Wright a win) after
loading the bases with nobody out.
And, for the pièce de résistance, closer
Craig Kimbrel had
another implosion of wildness that led to the ultimate
10-inning 3-1 loss. Really bad. No biscuit. Luckily, the Orioles blew a late lead and stayed just one game ahead of
The Carmine Hose.
