In today's fifth round of the
2016 MLB Draft (148th overall pick),
the Red Sox selected University of Maryland RHP Mike Shawaryn. The junior holds five different Terrapin records—including career wins, career strikeouts, single-season wins and single-season strikeouts. Shawaryn was an All-American selection in both 2014 and 2015 and posted a 3.18 ERA this season. Most draft pundits had expected Shawaryn to be snatched up on Day One, but it looks as if the Red Sox may have scooped up another 'hidden' mound gem.
