Clay Buchholz is from Texas—but it didn't help him yesterday in Arlington. The tall righty had another meltdown first inning (he should patent those)—coughing up three runs, to put his team into an immediate hole in
the eventual 6-2 loss. All told, he yielded five runs in 5 1/3 innings—further clouding the starting rotation for
John Farrell and
The Carmine Hose. The formerly potent Red Sox offense punched out eight hits—including two each by
Mookie Betts and
Bryce Brentz (who clouted his first career HR). On to Tampa, to face the dismal Rays, who have lost 11 straight games.
