MLB Investigating Sox On International Signing Offense
Baseball America is reporting that Major League Baseball is investigating the Red Sox for possible international signing pool violations in 2015. The specific issue is whether Boston signed "package deals" with certain young Venezuelan players to get around bonus pool restrictions. It's unclear why MLB is targeting only the Red Sox—since it's well known that virtually every team has engaged in package deals with various Latin American trainers. Moreover, MLB seems to be using 'strong-arm' tactics to scare teenage Sox players into "telling the truth" about their signings. Reportedly, several at the team's Dominican baseball academy were threatened with suspension this week if they did not cooperate. Stay tuned, this could become a huge story.
