Multiple reports have suggested that instead of signing
José Bautista or
Edwin Encarnación to DH next year,
the Red Sox could opt for a shorter-term signing of Mark Teixeira. The logic is that Teixeira would only serve one or two years (and even platoon at DH/first base with
Hanley Ramirez) while a bevy of new young kids mature in the minors. With the rapid advance of such prospects as
Andrew Benintendi,
Sam Travis and
Yoan Moncada, this might be a more prudent approach (since both Bautista and Encarnación would likely demand longer-term deals that could block the "kids"). It's something to think about.
