As worries about Boston's starting rotation deepen, the rumors of a deal for young ace
Sonny Gray are surfacing again. We all know that Oakland GM
Billy Beane is prone to dumping proven players for a plethora of prospects. What we
don't know is how generous (or desperate)
Dave Dombrowski is to acquire a frontline pitcher like Gray. We certainly are deep enough in prospects to fetch him. The speculation is that a return package to the A's would have to include
some or
all of the following:
Blake Swihart,
Rusney Castillo,
Henry Owens,
Brian Johnson,
Pat Light. The "wildcard" is whether the group must include 18-year old pitching stud
Anderson Espinoza. The kid is widely regarded as having "ace" potential at the top of any rotation. Of course, Gray is pretty much there already. The 26-year old righty is 34-21 with a 2.87 ERA since 2013 and is just hitting his prime years. Stay tuned—something big could be in the works!
